A new version of the Vetting Request & Consent Form is now available on the Police vetting website. The new form includes references to the proposed legislation, and additional fields to capture parent/guardian consent for 14- and 15-year-olds. Our Diocese is accepting the new form now.
The New Zealand Police Vetting Service (PVS) have confirmed they are now more actively enforcing and scrutinising vetting applications against their criteria. The key impact for the Church, particularly in parishes, is this will significantly reduce the types of roles relating to ministry with vulnerable adults that were in the past accepted for police vetting. In response to this change, NOPS has drafted guidelines to support all Catholic entities to practice good safety checking protocol that incorporates consideration of police vetting. Read the NOPS’ document here.
Protecting children and vulnerable people from harm is a top priority in our Church today and flows out of the example Jesus gave us where children and the vulnerable were not only welcome but safe in His company.
