Schools’ Education Team

The role of the Schools Education team falls into two categories, that of school support and religious education.

School Support

Boards of Trustees, principals, school staff, parish priests and members of the wider school community seek assistance from the Schools Education team. Areas covered, relate to preference for enrolment criteria and appeals, employment of tagged and untagged teachers, governance and matters pertaining to a school’s compliances under their Integration Agreement. The focus is to support the school in matters to do with its special catholic character. The Schools Education team coordinate and report on the Special Character reviews of each school.

Religious Education

The Religious Education Advisors oversee the delivery of the National Religious Education Curriculum in all Catholic primary and secondary schools within the diocese.  They provide schools with supporting resources, oversee the professional development of school staff, provide opportunities for ongoing formation in the faith of those working in the schools and assist Te Kupenga - Catholic Theological College by promoting various tertiary papers/course in Theology, Scripture, Spirituality, Religious Education and Catholic Character.

In addition to this, they support principals and boards of trustees to meet the recommendations of a school’s Catholic Character review, organise the annual Commissioning Masses to bless the academic year and contribute to reviewing the Religious Education Curriculum with the national Religious Education under the leadership of Anne Kennedy and Colin MacLeod at NCRS.

Resources:

R.E Cafe is designed to enable teachers to share faith formation and best practice in teaching and learning of Religious Education.

The Hamilton Diocese creates and produces resources for use in parishes and schools! Schools might find the testimony series and Mass series particularly useful.
