The diocesan curia consists of those institutions and persons which assist the bishop in the governance of the whole diocese, especially in guiding pastoral action, in caring for the administration of the diocese, and in exercising judicial power. (Can. 469)

With Bishop Steve Lowe's appointment as the Bishop of Auckland and the Diocese of Hamilton being vacant, the Diocesan Pastoral Council and Council of Priests ceased. It will be the prerogative of the new bishop to form his new consultative bodies.
