I want to get a Preference Card for a Catholic School
If you are enrolling your child in a Catholic school, you will be asked to provide a Preference of Enrolment Certificate (Preference Card).
A Preference Card confirms that your child meets the criteria for preference of enrolment in a Catholic school. Preference is determined according to criteria established by the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference, and is a requirement of the agreement between the Crown and the Church.
How do I get a Preference Card?
Preference Cards are issued through our Catholic parishes by the Parish Priest or another person authorised by the Bishop.
Your parish will let you know what information you need to provide and arrange a time to discuss your request if required.

What does preference mean?
Catholic schools are state-integrated schools with a special Catholic character. Preference is given to students who have an established connection with the Catholic Church and meet one of the recognised preference criteria.
Receiving a Preference Card confirms that your child meets these criteria. It does not guarantee a place at a particular school. Enrolment decisions are made by each school according to its enrolment requirements, available places and the Education and Training Act 2020.
