Important moments of Christian Life
The Seven Sacraments
The seven sacraments touch all the stages and important moments of Christian life. Instituted by Christ, they have been entrusted to the Church. They are a visible sign of an inward received grace given to us by the Holy Spirit. These graces help us, the faithful, in our journey towards holiness.
Sacraments of Initiation
Baptism
Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments.
Confirmation
By the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptised] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit.
Eucharist
"I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world."
Sacraments of Healing
Reconciliation
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
Anointing of the sick
“Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up.”
Sacraments of Service
Holy Orders
Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry.
Marriage
"For this reason a man shall leave [his] father and [his] mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."
