A Safe Church For All
The Diocese of Hamilton is committed to being a safe and accountable Church for everyone. A range of Safeguarding resources are available, including Safeguarding Workshops, Safeguarding videos, a downloadable Safeguarding Booklet, and procedures for the prevention of and response to sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in New Zealand.
Safeguarding Workshops
Strengthening our Culture of Safeguarding Workshops are offered through the National Office of Professional Standards (The Catholic Church in Aotearoa New Zealand). These focus on:
Reflecting on the gospel foundation of safeguarding
Learning what it means to use a safeguarding lens in our roles
Engaging through reflective questions and scenarios
This 90-minute workshop is suitable for any person with a role (paid or volunteer) in any Catholic organisation or group. Registration is required, and anyone 18 years and younger must attend with a parent/guardian.
Attendance is recorded and a certificate of attendance will be issued. This workshop is also offered by diocesan safeguarding leads and can be provided to groups in-person.

Safeguarding Reporting Procedures
Protecting children and vulnerable adults from harm is a top priority in our Church today and flows out of the example Jesus gave us where children and the vulnerable were not only welcome but safe in His company.
Procedures for the prevention of and response to sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in New Zealand have been approved by the NZ Catholic Bishops Conference and the Congregational Leaders Conference of Aotearoa New Zealand.
